Job Description

Background:

  • SCL committed to improving productivity through digital transformation, data-driven decision-making, and the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices.
  • SCL seeks to engage a Data Analyst to strengthen project Juriya data systems, analytics, and visualization across programs.
  • The role will lead the design and management of digital data collection tools (CommCare), develop interactive dashboards using Power BI, and generate high-quality analytical insights to support evidence-based decision-making.

Purpose of the Role

  • The Data Analyst will be responsible for end-to-end data management from form design and data collection to analysis, visualization, and reporting ensuring data quality, integrity, and usability for program, operational, and strategic needs.

Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities
CommCare Form Design & Data Collection Systems:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of CommCare applications and forms.
  • Translate program requirements into logical data models, workflows, and validation rules.
  • Implement data quality controls (constraints, required fields, skip logic, and calculations).
  • Manage user roles, permissions, and application deployment.
  • Provide technical support and training to field teams on CommCare usage.
  • Integrate CommCare data with external systems and databases where required.

Data Management & Analytics:

  • Clean, process, and analyze data from multiple sources (CommCare, Excel, databases, APIs).
  • Conduct descriptive, diagnostic, and trend analysis to generate actionable insights.
  • Develop indicators, metrics, and analytical frameworks aligned with program objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy, and governance standards.
  • Support ad hoc analytical requests from management and program teams.

Power BI Dashboard Development:

  • Design and develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reports for real-time and periodic reporting.
  • Build efficient data models, DAX calculations, and measures.
  • Automate data refreshes and ensure dashboard performance optimization.
  • Customize dashboards for different stakeholders (management, donors, program teams).
  • Document dashboards, metrics definitions, and data sources.

Reporting & Decision Support:

  • Produce high-quality analytical reports, briefs, and presentations.
  • Translate complex data findings into clear insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities with data-driven evidence.
  • Contribute to donor and management reporting requirements.

Capacity Building & Collaboration:

  • Mentor junior analysts and data officers.
  • Develop data standards, SOPs, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with IT, GIS, MEL, and program teams to align data solutions. ✓ Support integration with GIS tools.

Deliverables:

  • Fully functional and documented CommCare forms/applications.
  • Clean, well-structured datasets and data pipelines.
  • Interactive Power BI dashboards and automated reports.
  • Periodic analytical reports and insight briefs.
  • Data quality assessments and improvement recommendations.
  • Training materials and technical documentation.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Geography, Agriculture, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree Statistics, Data Science, Geography, Agriculture, Computer Science, Information Systems, Economics, or a related field.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years experience in data analytics or data management roles.
  • Proven experience in CommCare form and application design.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (data modeling, DAX, dashboard design).
  • Experience working with large datasets and multiple data sources.
  • Prior experience in development, health, agriculture, or humanitarian programs is an advantage.

Technical Skills:

  • CommCare (advanced form logic, app management).
  • Power BI (DAX, Power Query, data modeling).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, SQL, Python and data cleaning techniques.
  • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of data protection and information security principles.
